USA Pampers vs. Japan Pampers: a silly design comparison
On our recent trip to Japan we decided to be ambitious and bring the kid with us. The trip was going to be over 2 weeks long, so we tried to simplify and pack as light as possible, which can be a real challenge when you’re traveling with an 11 month old. On top of our own essentials, we had to consider a heavy travel crib, stroller, child carrier, and winter clothes and such. To save on luggage space, we opted to order diapers and wipes from Amazon Japan and just have them shipped to the hotel. As diapers are quite bulky, it turned out to be a smart move.
We prefer Pampers because they’ve hardly failed us, if ever. Conveniently, Pampers also happens to be one of the most popular brands of diapers available in Japan. Win!
Shown here are a variety of our usual American Pampers that we packed. These are Cruisers size 5.
We ordered a pack of 52 L-size tape style diapers (as opposed to “pantsu” which are pull on type) and when we arrived at the hotel, I was surprised to discover they looked very different! Plus they also have an indicator strip!
Bunnies! Polar bears! Foxes! Need I say more?
Japan’s Pampers perform just as well as the ones from home, yet manage to be ridiculously cute while maintaining a clean look. The smiley monkey and elephant on the US counterpart are also arguably adorable, but the repeating camera pattern all over the front makes it seem unnecessarily busy. It all comes down to a matter of personal taste, but I personally like simple designs and limited color palettes, so Japan’s Pampers are the clear winner in my book.
Sadly I’ve already used up the last of the ones we brought home. *wistful sigh*
